Reflections

This semester of TPTE has been as semester of growth for me. I began the class thinking I had a good grip on technology, but soon found out there was much more to be learned. Everything we learned and studied will be useful to me in my future classroom. I believe that technology can truly enhance the music classroom and should be used more to engage students. I especially enjoyed learning how to create a website. I found it so useful and practical that I created another website for a project in my high school methods class. I was required to make a choral handbook, and opted to create it online as a website. My teacher was very impressed, and it gave me extra practice for future reference. Another tool I also used for my high school methods class was the flip chart. I downloaded Active Inspire to my laptop and created a flip chart to teach a lesson on solfege. The class enjoyed using the board and was truly engaged with the lesson, because they were using technology to interact with one another. It was interesting to see how the board can be used first hand. In my elementary methods class last semester, we created something similar to the digital movie, but it was helpful to learn more ways to make them clearer through small editing tips. This has been one of the most useful and practical classes I have taken at the University of Tennessee, and I look forward to implementing the tools I have learned in my future classroom.
